Pastor
James Veney

  Affectionately known as Pastor “V”, James H. Veney is a true visionary for the 21st Century, called, chosen and anointed to minister to the young and the seasoned, weekly delivering a clear, practical, relevant message to all who come to be ministered to. He is a spirit-filled, energetic Preacher/Teacher who was called and commissioned by God to Organize the Canaan Christian Fellowship Church in Landover, Md. in August 2003. Canaan is a non-denominational, Bible teaching, Christ-centred ministry.

 

  Pastor Veney has been happily married to Maria Y. Thompkins-Veney for 23 years and she supports him wholeheartedly in Ministry. They have two wonderful children, Michelle and James.

 

Pastor Veney’s life scripture is found in Galatians 2:20 where it says, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me”

First Lady 
Maria Yvette Veney

Maria Yvette Veney is the First Lady of the Canaan Christian Fellowship Church where her Husband James H. Veney serves as the Senior Pastor. Born in Washington, D.C. she is the youngest of seven children born to Jesse Thompkins and Ruby Ellis-Thompkins.

She is the loving mother of Michelle and James. Maria was educated in DC public schools in the District of Columbia. Maria has an extensive background in the Mental Health field having worked with Teenagers and Adults.
​
Maria currently serves as Co-Director alongside her husband for CCFC's Life Groups where she and her husband provide oversight and direction to the Life Group Leaders of CCFC and its programs.  Maria is passionate about seeing Women of all walks of life living out and fulfilling their purpose and destiny in Christ.
​
Maria enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, and spending time with family. Maria is also the owner of her own Jewelry Business, Unique Accents where she creatively makes her own jewelry.

Maria’s life scripture is found in 2nd Corinthians 5:17 where it says, "“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.”"
